TIPPING
OK folks I need your opinion. Recently I have noticed a tip is expected/asked when I'm picking up a to-go order. Yeah, A
TO-GO ORDER. I have never noticed this before. Maybe it's quite possible I just never paid attention I dunno but I usually try to avoid dinning in when I'm in a rush or when I'm low on cashola and can't tip. Don't get me wrong, I always tip. Even if the service isn't too great. But on a to-go order??? Why?? Why am I even being asked? They didn't service me. They didn't have to deal with my kids or refill my drinks. They simply put the food in the box
and rang up the ticket. Am I behind on my etiquette skills?? Am I straight up being a tight ass? Tell me the truth. Do you tip on to-go orders?

Alright, scratched my last comment, I actually researched the matter this time. You might be interested in the thread discussion on this website (click here).
Apparently, there is no settled debate on whether to tip to-go orders. However, in such circumstances it seems completely up to the customer.
I haven't eaten out in a while so I forgot that some of the to-go restaurants I patron, especially "Ma and Pa" or family-owned restaurants, have tip jars at the front desk. It's not a requirement to tip but I often do in those cases because I like to support small businesses however I can plus it's often the case that I grow to "know" the family over the years, and that's how I show some love. So I understanding tipping if you've patroned a place for a long time and you love their service.
However, I still say it isn't an obligation to tip, even in the example I just used. In the end, I certainly don't think it's the place of an employee to ask to be tipped for to-go orders. I see it as being sorta uncalled-for.
...Hope that helps?
I thought so. I agree with that. I just was thrown off when I was asked if I'd like to put a tip when I was picking up my order. Maybe she didn't mean to ask as it's possibly a habbit she has when she rings people up in general. Maybe she didn't realize it was a to-go. Who knows. i just hate feeling like a cheap ass and with everything going up like gas,
clothes, food, I figured this was another change as well... thanks Rach! :-)
here in California, Starbucks has a tip jar at their drive-thru, believe it or not. Blew me away. I usually give the spare change if it's enough, but i don;t always. I think a "tip" stands for "to ensure promptness" but if that was the case, wouldnt you tip at the beginnin gof the meal, and not the end? In any case, to ask for a tip is bad etiquette - or someone who just didnt know better!
ok, ok - how come you are not blogging anywhere?
I only tip if the service is flawless - meaning that I didn't have to wait too long for my order, that it is clean (the restaurant) and the waiter/waitress are friendly. If not - no tip.
Good good good......
